Tumour Related Lung Disease

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a disease of unknown etiology which may affect a number of organs including the lung39.

There is a known association between LCH and smoking

The natural history of pulmonary LCH varies from spontaneous remission to progressive respiratory insufficiency and death.

Poor prognostic factors include:

  • Pneumothorax
  • Multisystem disease
  • Extensive pulmonary involvement with cyst formation and impaired diffusing capacity

Monitoring - Pulmonary status should be monitored with PFTs and if necessary high resolution CT scan.
