  • Cytochemical features - staining
  • Immunologic characteristics - cell surface protein markers
  • Cytogenetic and molecular characteristics - genetic mutations

Acute vs Chronic

Myeloid vs Lymphoid

T cell vs B cell (ALL)
FAB classification
WHO classification (AML)

 

Acute

  • “Sudden” onset
  • Death in weeks to months  if untreated.

 

Chronic  

  • Insidious onset
  • Death in years if untreated
  • Rare in pediatrics
