Source of Stem Cells
There are three main places where stem cells can be obtained for transplant into an individual
Bone Marrow: This is the traditional way of obtaining HSCs - a “bone marrow transplant”.
Peripheral Blood: HSCs also exist in small quantities in the peripheral blood.
Umbilical Cord Blood: Contains immature HSCs that can be used for allogeneic transplant.
