A multidisciplinary team approach is essential:

  • Initial surgery - aim is to:
    • Treat hydrocephalus
    • Achieve as complete a resection as possible
  • Subsequent combined radiation therapy (RT) and chemotherapy after surgery is generally the standard of care (except in infants where high dose chemotherapy and stem cell rescue are used as an approach to spare young children the morbidity of RT).
